FAQ

  • What can I expect from family therapy sessions?

Family therapy offers a space where parents, children, and teens can explore challenges together, improve communication, and resolve conflict. I work with each family to understand their unique dynamics and create a safe environment where everyone feels heard and respected.

  • Do you work with children and teens who have ADHD or ODD?

Yes. I provide support for children and adolescents dealing with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), emotional dysregulation, and related behaviors. Sessions may include coping skill-building, parent coaching, and practical strategies for home and school.

  • How do I know if my child or teen needs therapy?

If your child is struggling with anxiety, mood swings, behavior issues, low self-esteem, or life transitions (like divorce, loss, or a move), therapy can help. Signs may include frequent outbursts, withdrawal, academic decline, or difficulty making friends.

  • What issues do you help women work through in therapy?

I support women navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, parenting stress, relationship struggles, identity transitions, and past abuse. Therapy can offer a space to reconnect with your voice, set healthy boundaries, and build confidence.

  • What happens in couples or marriage therapy?

Couples therapy helps partners explore communication patterns, rebuild trust, and resolve ongoing conflict. Whether you’re navigating parenting challenges, infidelity, or emotional distance, we work together to identify strengths and grow your connection.

  • Do you work with young adults and college students?

Yes, I frequently work with young adults adjusting to independence, identity development, school stress, relationship concerns, and mental health challenges like anxiety and depression. Therapy can offer tools and perspective during this critical life stage.

  • Can therapy help with anxiety and depression?

Absolutely. Whether you're experiencing persistent worry, panic, sadness, or a lack of motivation, therapy can help you understand your emotions, develop coping tools, and feel more in control. I use evidence-based approaches tailored to each individual.

  • What if my partner or child doesn’t want to come to therapy?

That’s okay—and very common. Therapy is voluntary, and part of our job is to meet people where they are. We approach all clients with curiosity and compassion. If someone’s hesitant, we’ll go at their pace and work to build trust over time.

  • How involved are parents in child and teen therapy?

Parent involvement is essential! For younger children, we often work closely with caregivers to reinforce skills at home. For teens, we respect their need for privacy, while keeping parents in the loop with general updates and collaborative planning.

  • How long is each therapy session?

Most sessions are 50 minutes long. This gives us time to check in, dive into the work, and wrap up with a plan for the week.

  • Do you offer both in-person and virtual sessions?

Yes, I offer flexible options for both in-person therapy and secure telehealth sessions. We’ll choose the format that works best for you or your family.

  • Do you accept insurance?

Lavender Lane Therapy is a self-pay practice. We do not bill insurance directly, but we’re happy to provide superbills if you’d like to request reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits. Many clients appreciate the privacy and flexibility of paying privately.
